Dari Rahim ke Sungai: Tafsir Teologis dan Gender atas Keutamaan Ibu dalam Keluaran 2:1–10

Andreas Christanto

Abstract

This study highlights the role of motherhood in Exodus 2:1–10 through a theological and gender-based exegetical approach. The story of Moses' rescue is often understood as divine intervention. Still, this study demonstrates that a network of women—Yochebed, Miriam, and Pharaoh’s daughter—strategically played a crucial role in resisting Pharaoh’s repressive system. Their decisions were expressions of maternal love and acts of defiance against injustice. By adopting feminist hermeneutics and narrative analysis, this study deconstructs the patriarchal bias in biblical interpretation that often diminishes the role of women in salvation history. Moreover, this research compares biblical motherhood with maternal practices in various cultures, affirming that motherhood is not merely a domestic function but also a social and spiritual strategy for shaping future generations. In this context, motherhood is about nurturing and prophetic leadership that contributes to social transformation. Thus, this study asserts that the role of mothers in biblical narratives should be reconstructed as a form of active spirituality with a broad impact on society.
